What is your favorite opening and why is it the London?

It really depends on which London you’re talking about. The Jobava London is goated and nothing comes close to it

i personally do not have the courage to go into the open sicillian against the Najdorf, instead i go for a Grand Prix attack with a closed setup

I don't really like the London opening, I mostly prefer the Fried Liver Attack.

As much as I agree that jobava is by far the best London, at least it has some clear and potentially dangerous plans associated…. But Ew London, ew d4

There are so so many more interesting choices with both colours. One of my favourites (certainly lately) has been the ponziani. Incredible, underrated opening with white that’s working against 2000s and everything below. The ways to equalize aren’t at all intuitive for black, and the plans are excellent, with a decent blend of good traps and comfortable middlegames. It’s been very successful for me, and I believe it was the opening I played the first game I hit 2000 in June.

Yea I’ve heard some things about the Ponziani, I’m an e6 player though so I’ve never faced it myself!
