I dont know... I've gotten sharp games from it as Black. It's a semi-open symmetrical position. I have the book Attacking Chess: The French by Simon Williams. Williams claims that because it's such a symmetrical position the better player will usually win.
One way to spice things up that I wouldn't recommend is for White to play c4 or Black to play c5. It makes things more dynamic, but the side that plays the move will end up with an isolated pawn.

Being black in these moves is very painful becuase you can't castle in black. So I just don't try new openings.

Theses days I'm annoyed by the Scandinavian, it's everywhere and it's bad.
white playing d4 for their first move annoys me, because I like to play e5 and e4

apparently my opponent did the exact moves (he was black) and I ended up winning. It was a blitz game
