What to play against 1.d4

I'm looking for an opening against 1.d4, that  fits my style of play. I like to play in the center, Hypermodern opening aren't my thing, and I like quick simple Developing moves. I preffer playing in open positions. Other openings I play are Giuoco Piano, Morra-Smith Gambit, the Two Knights Defense, Berlin Defense against the Ruy. I've played the slav, albin countergambit, and the queens gambit accepted, there all okay but not quite my style.

Try the Tarrasch Defense - 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 c5. Just be aware that if white tries to win a pawn via 4. dxc5, you have to advance your pawn with 4. ... d4 as in this example:

N f6 is probably your best  bet  allows open or closed game

Try the modern Benoni or Benko Gambit.

I think there is a wider range of good choices in response to 1d4 than there are to 1e4. I play both 1e4 and 1d4 as white and I see a wider variety of responses to 1d4. The popularity of the sicilian means when I play 1e4 I am more likely to see a sicilian than any other response. In fact I started playing 1d4 more simply because I grew weary of seeing so many sicilians as I also play sicilian a lot as black.

If you play classical, then the QGD might be a good start.

I like playing 1. ... e6 in response to d4 because it offers a good number of transpositional options. White can move it into a French with 2. e4, which is typically OK with me, (if you're comfortable with the French against 1. e4, it's not a bad way to go) and there are options like the Nimzo-Indian, Benoni, QGD, and possibly a deferred QID that can be used.

I'm still a fan of calalan/queens indian/nimzo-indian (your opponents choice, really).

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. (either Nf3 or g3)

 Ahhh now I understand!

Well, I always suggest beginners play 1...e5. It's probably the most solid and most classically based respoonse. It will encourage and re-enforce good development and castling habits, and introduce you to a wide variety of structures and plans.

I like Slav Defense and Queen's Indian against 1.d4

The Semi-Slav is a fantasic opening.  It offers very tactical and positional games that Black can choose from.  The Semi-Slav is known for its tactical richness and its soundness.  No wonder it is becoming one of the most common responses to d4.  Its positions can be reached in different move orders, so I even play it against the English!

Play the King's Indian you get to play for the center and you get a king side attack

CCBTheDestroyer
Try the dutch defence.

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6

This is the beginning to the Nimzo-Indian, the Queen's Indian, and can transpose into many systems.  Although it is hyper-modern, it keeps Black's position from being too cramped and is quite combative.  Look up the different openings that stem from this and give it a try...

I play Semi-Slav. Its theoretical but fun.
