What was your most dramatic come back in chess like?

Maybe this is not the most dramatic come back, but I remember this game I played here.

I blundered in the opening (I have no idea what I was thinking about!) but then, since i had nothing to lose, I started to play hyper aggressive, with sacs and eventually I won the game.

I like those very much!

Happened something similar as to @varelse1, just that I was the losing one. Laughing

I've had several good comebacks, mostly because players at my level often blunder, or simply make less-than-optimal moves to seal up a win.  Probably my most memorable was when I was down K+R to K+R+B+5P.  It should have been over, but he accidentally let me capture his rook, and then slowly I was able to manuever and pick off most of his pawns until he got his King cornered behind my a pawn, and I was able to checkmate him.

I know I have the game recorded somewhere (it was played on chess.com) but I don't have it at my fingertips (it was put into my archived section, and I don't have it saved to the computer on which I'm working now).  I'd like to post it, although it's more of a blunderfest than great comeback.

I've posted this game at a different forum earlier, but here is one of my favorite comebacks (look from move 27 to see how hopeless my position really was earlier)

Perfect Martin, I totally enjoyed it!

Mine were in Blitz games I am just too embarrassed to post - they are that bad.

No game is bad, there are only a better ones. :)

In respect of your post, n. 26 - check it out, man - after 30. Rd3! and up two pieces, the guy can definitely escape your perpetual...

You do get to play 30...Rxc2+ Kd1 - but suddenly there are no more checks, and his Rd3 can also move to c3 if your rook leaves the c-file, and block any ideas you may have along the 1st rank.

I guess the position wasn't as simple as I made it sound like, but I still think black can draw sooner or later by using a combination of ideas on the 1st rank and perpetual check ideas.

edit: looking again I think white can escape the perpetual, but at the cost of both his pieces which ends up in a worse rook endgame for him, so I still think it is a draw.

<Martin0> I guess you're right. When I wrote my comment I didn't notice that 33...Rbb2! will put white again in a situation where he's still got the same problem to solve.

I looked and looked, and didn't find a way to escape the threats while retaining the material advantage. Astonishing, how strong these two rooks on the seventh actually are. So your knight sacrifice earlier was really brilliant (if totally unforced...)

Martin0

yeah, I like the knight sac and was just as surprised to see how strong the rooks on the 7th rank really are when I discovered it. It's too bad white wasn't forced take the knight. White was totally winning if he would play 29.Na3 instead (not to mention when he was up a queen earlier and should have had a forced mate), but I understand his temptation to capture a hanging piece.

MSC157

Here's a game from round 1 of a chess.com tournament where I managed 2nd out of 1500+ players.

With this win and a "gifted draw", I managed to win in the group with only 0.5 pt lead.

I was a bishop down but somehow... Laughing

solskytz

<Martin0> even if he had a forced win with Na3, your fun Nc7 sacrifice still qualifies as a swindle - and what's the most important - it worked!

My opponent (2000) had clearly outplayed me (1750) the entire game, and eventually I just started throwing away pieces. Then I got this position:

I felt pretty bad for him afterwards.

Do not black have a free pawn left ? Why is this draw?

    A collective halucination?

Black is moving down the board, so the pawn is without a legal move.

Haha, that's fantastic, love these!

I wouldn't call these dramatic, more like heavy blunders by my opponents, but hey, they certainly didn't see those coming:

I know these aren't high quality games, but I guess it's appropriate for a weak player like me :)

solskytz

Nice, Ajmeroski :-)

I really liked the first one.

I guess that in your place, I would go for the fork 30. Ne3, which also defends against the mate on f1, rather than try for the checkmate, but hey - it worked :-)

Did you realize that you could win a pawn through 9. Bxf7+, by the way? :-)

ajmeroski

Thanks. Well, obviously I didn't see Bxf7+ in the game :P but i analyse the games with Chessmaster engine after I finish them (looking for missed tactics mostly), so I saw it there.
