What's better KID or Q.G.D

I usually play the queens gambit accepted but I am considring playing the King Indian. The main reason is that I play 1.g3 as white, Do you feel it is a reasonable reason to play it ?

CoachConradAllison

I like the KID, but it is a lot of work.

rohan11

I know it is ridiculous how many people pick the KID, just becuase it seems easy, using no revision at all.

I think with the KID you will lose more and win more but draw less than with the QGD or the QGA

ozzie_c_cobblepot

QGD is much better. Everybody knows that.

But you say that you play the QGA. That is not the same as the QGD.

At your level especially, stick with the QGD. You need to learn the classical openings thoroughly before trying the more hyper-modern, dynamic openings. (The cool sounding description of the KID doesn't make it objectively any better. Nor does the thought of forbidden fruit.)

It's disgusting the amount of newbies who play the KID because its an easy set-up to remember but have no idea how to play it after they castle and are done with the generic set-up

Too much information - I don't need to know what your stomach thinks of other people's opening choices.

rohan11

I don't think the KID is bad but I feel you should reaserch an opening thourghly before experimenting

rohan11

Just out of intrest what do you all play against 1.e4

Shouldn't a NM respect other people's opinion?

By the way, my favourite line against 1.d4 is the Grundfeld, and now I'm starting to play the Albi Countergambit.

rohan11

The Albi Conter Gambit is quite a good variation, although it does have some flaws

You realy do think that a chess title means something about personality

I vote for KID being the better opening!

Of course it's just a matter of personal preference.

I agree completly!Laughing

rohan11

Depends on what you believe

rohan11

Surprised

rohan11

You are right

rohan11

I'm very partial to the KID as I play against it very frequently, so I can not give my opinion on any opening

podgeboy76

I'm being a bit silly as I don't know what KID or QGD is, was hoping to find out on here

pauix

KID --> King's Indian Defense.

QGD --> Queen's Gambit Declined.

And I don't like any of them. Tongue out

My choices against 1.d4 as black are the Grundfeld and the Albi Countergambit.

KID is too difficult for most players below master level IMHO. "Master Level" = 2200 USCF rating, not the hyper-inflated ratings used here.

1.g3 is also a bad choice for players below strong Class-A or more likely below Expert Level (USCF 2000). Less experienced players should start out with Double KP openings and play Double QP Openings as Black vs. 1.d4, again IMHO but GM Reti in "Masters of the Chessboard"  also recommends OPEN games for beginners.

I'm with Fezzik & Shirovstyle's first posting on this one. I disagree with Reb, I think players below 2000 here will simply lose more with KID (as opposed to QGD or Slav Defense for instance) period.

The reason you play an opening is to reach an position that you find that is right, there is no opening which gives you a automatic win
