That's the whole point....White needs to be careful of Black's attack !....and White knows this playing against the Sicilian Offence....How many times has White said, "Oh no !" to themselves when Black plays c5 after their e4 ?....hehe....and remember, Black pretty much forces White into the Sicilian Offence with c5. So, it's Black who controls the direction....see ?....hilarious !....and that's why I kiddingly call it this, my French connection....
....
When should one start playing the Sicilian?

Flawless logic xD and this must be the first time I get referred to as ''French connection''
My main point is call it whatever you want....figure out why however you want....but most important - think independently !....because the book says capture 3...cxd....does that mean you must ? Of course not....figure out why. Most players learn something like the Sicilian by memorizing all the different variations by name and their first 8 book moves w/out understanding their reasoning....bzzzz....wrong answer. The ? is why....go find the answer on your own....it'll make you a better player....I'm only trying to help....
....and BTW, what holds nearly all players from real improvement is their inability to take getting their butt kicked over and over....can you say ego ?....they can't take it....but, it'll be the best lessons you'll ever get - for free !....and you can't get that from any book....haha !
(Hi varelse1 !....Hope all is well my love....)

I do know basic theory and ideas of the Sicilian just sometimes I struggle recognizing when to use which idea xD like, I tend to play b5 either too soon or too late. I used to play French defense which suited my positional style better, it got me to 2000 rating OTB, but simply got bored of it.
I have noticed something I call the sicilian paradox,
begineer: Coach, how can I get better at chess?
chess coach: Study tactics.
begineer: Coach, why dont you want me to play the sicilian?
chess coach: You will get crushed by tactics
I know what you mean. I'm French, and I bore myself sometimes.
lol maybe ironic in one way or another but nothing but coincidence
People say you must know book or white with crush you with preparation, this is true at some level but for amatuers e4 e5 is much more likely to run you into a prepaired trap then e4 c5 I personaly (from a low level) find the najdorf to be fairly trap resistant myself.
I still think begineers should play e4 e5 it will get you blown off the board by trappy players and learning to win against these early attacks is important for understanding devolpment.
that said I am a huge advocate of playing whatever you feel like and gaining understanding from seeing how your intuition either helped or failed you after the game

If you're playing 2000 chess, then you don't need to listen to a patzer like me....
I wasnt actually taking advice as well as having a nice conv xD
She's playing 2000 chess, and her name's Serotonine. Think of what your rating would be if you just changed your name to Testosterone?? You could take over the world.

What did I say to make you think my gender is female?
I once played against the sicilian dragon and he spent way too much time developing and influencing his position and when i started the pawnstorm it was too late.He blundered his pieces because of the fear of my attack and i won.
OK, you got me. Guilty as charged. I won't do it again. Most people know by now that when I come to these forums, I HAVE NO BRAIN. Rooperi corrects my Geography, someone else corrects my spelling. Seratonine is part of the brain, or a chemical in the brain. There's a member here with the user name of Benzodyaziphrine. You people are just a bunch of druggies, and my mother told me not to associate with you. Its a long explanation, and I don't want to imflame the issue. But since you asked. Men & Women are both, because of our chromazones. Trysts said that I had an evil side. I agreed, because of the Star Trek episode in which 1 captain Kirk went into the transporter beam, and 2 Captain Kirks came out. 1 bad, 1 good. Spock said it takes BOTH sides to live properly. Lola, help me, what's that chemical I'm thinking of that defines females??

The "Island Style" Sicilian........and BTW, I don't call it the Sicilian Defence....I call it the Sicilian Offence....whoever said Black had to be defensive ?........
O yes I certainly agree that Sicilian is offensive. Even though I am stronger in positional play and my results are pretty bad playing Sicilian I will keep playing and studying it. And I guess just in chess terms it is always so that black has to defend itself against the attack from white
