For intermediate chess players, there are several strong openings that are widely recommended due to their balance of strategic depth and tactical opportunities. Here are some of the best options: 1. **Ruy López (Spanish Opening)**: - Moves: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 - This opening focuses on control of the center and development of pieces, offering a rich variety of plans and counterplans. 2. **Italian Game**: - Moves: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 - Known for its straightforward development and potential for aggressive play, the Italian Game can help players practice key principles like piece activity and central control. 3. **Sicilian Defense**: - Moves: 1. e4 c5 - For Black, the Sicilian Defense is one of the most popular and effective responses to 1. e4. It leads to complex, dynamic positions that require and build a deep understanding of chess. 4. **Queen's Gambit**: - Moves: 1. d4 d5 2. c4 - This opening is known for its solid and positional nature, allowing White to aim for long-term strategic advantages while offering Black opportunities for counterplay. 5. **Caro-Kann Defense**: - Moves: 1. e4 c6 - The Caro-Kann is a solid and resilient defense against 1. e4. It allows Black to develop pieces harmoniously while avoiding some of the sharper lines of other defenses. 6. **French Defense**: - Moves: 1. e4 e6 Another solid choice for Black, the French Defense leads to rich, strategic battles. It often results in asymmetrical pawn structures, providing many opportunities to practice strategic planning. These openings help intermediate players develop a well-rounded understanding of chess principles such as piece development, control of the center, pawn structure, and tactical awareness. Studying and playing these openings will provide a strong foundation and improve overall chess skills.

The Thank You Award you sent me was very nice Sushanto.

Your Most Welcome!

Due to your kind gesture, I have decided to share with you 5 of my top secret Intermediate lines which you can play at your chess level.

I will also share with you 3 of the most powerful lines in all of chess.

They are so deadly some chess players around the world fear them and try to avoid them!

————————

Line #1 - The Grand Prix Attack - Intermediate Opening

Line #2 - Lizard Defense - Intermediate Opening

Line #3 - Staunton Gambit - Intermediate Opening

Line #4 - The Orangutan Opening - Intermediate Opening

Line #5 - King’s Gambit - Intermediate Opening

————————————

I consider the above Openings Intermediate because of 2 very important reasons:

1 - The player who uses the above lines needs to have good tactics.

Beginners or Novice players don’t have the good Tactics because they are fairly new and they might not know about doing tactical puzzles or practice with friends.

2 - The player who uses the above lines needs to know how to use the initiative and they need chess instincts.

Beginners and Novice players don’t know when to attack or not to attack. They are very 1 dimensional. They are either full aggressive or full passive. They don’t know when to switch from passive to aggressive or aggressive to passive.

Intermediate players have this ability. They are like Lions lurking in the grass.

They are waiting for right moment to strike and pounce on enemy.

Intermediate players have feelings when they think they are winning or they have feeling when they think they are losing.

When they think they are winning, they can be extreme aggressive and intimidating.

When they think they are losing, they can be extremely defensive like fortress. It can be very frustrating to some players and it can cause then to mess up due to frustration of their good defense skills.

Deadly Line #1 - Catalan - Advanced Opening

Impossible to break through the Catalan!

Deadly Line #2 - Nimzo Indian Defense - Advanced Opening

Some players don’t play Nc3 and instead play Nf3. Why? Fear!

Deadly Line #3 - Grunfeld - Advanced Opening

Some English players try to avoid Grunfeld by playing c4 + Nc3 + e4 to prevent d5. Than they play d4. Why? Scary Cats!

The best opening is the one that the intermediate player understands what they're doing, and enjoys the positions they get. It will not be one size fits all. Intermediate level is where players can branch out and find what really works for them.
