indeed. Maybe it's just the Old School in me, but I have to say... earlier on in my competitive days, I always found it easier to play 1. d4 as white and defend as black. Soo, using the Caro•Kann & Sicilian Najdorf was easy for me because I never had to face my own Defenses as white. Not sure if that makes sense to you. For me, 1. e4 is hard to defend against: somewhat chaotic to play and defend whereas, Queen pawn openings vibe with me~both offensively n defensively. Which is why I prefer playing 1. d4 as white. My Opening Repertoire is another matter all together but it does revolve around this philosophy.
