Which one is? Black defense against e4

Hello! I´m  trying to remember wich opening is (and the exact secuence of main line) for a Black defense against e4, that starts e4 - e5

I think it was used by several grandmasters in past. Unfortunatelly I have not much to help on guessing it.

It was pawn stucture as Philidor, but the particular thing I remember is the black knight going to e7 first (Nge7) and then to g6 (Ng6)

I´ve tried (but surely is not the right order)

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bc4 Nc6 4.c3 Nge7 5.O-O Ng6 6.Re1 Be7

If that ring someone's bells, please can you tell me wich defense is that? (not exactly what I´ve posted but the one I´m looking for and can´t find).

Thanks in advance!

You may have got the knights mixed up. Knights perhaps on d7 and f6, with a rerouting of the the knight on d7 to f8 to g6. You may be thinking of the Hanham variation.

Something doesn't seem right about that placement, I play the Hanham as Black, and in even in that line, White can play some gambit lines involving Bxf7 and/or Ng5 ideas, even after Black has castled.  Playing Ne7-g6 seems alot riskier, like it gives White an extra tempo to play similar ideas.

Perhaps it might be this you are thinking of?

I can only recall some Ruy Lopez lines, either via the Cozio, or Old Steinitz move order.

Your suggested move sequence loses material to 5.Ng5 or 5.Qb3- can't decide which is better, and it does not matter.
