it depends on yur style,if ure an attacking player and like open games u will play e4,but if u r a positional player and like closed games,u will play d4

I agree with all of you who have said this. I personally prefer e4.

Playing 1.d4 gives white a forced checkmate in 187. Playing 1.e4 only allows white to do it in 188.3

Meaning that on d4 after white makes his 187th move black will resign, and on e4 while white is about 1/3 done making his 189th move black will resign

let's see if this post will attract any more attention...

Oh well thanks aijan for the heads up, call the 100,000's of GM's who have regularly used e4 because they.will.be.shocked. Turns out that e4 which as being hailed for centuries as the best or equal best opening move possible is inferior to d4, as discovered by aijon on the chess.com forums. Thank you very much.

( btw that was sarcastic, both moves are good)

Actually, I get the feeling patients are sometimes better informed, or at least more objective, about certain aspects of drug prescriptions than doctors, at least in America.  But I digress... :)

It's doubtful, since laypersons will not understand the importance of drug interactions, allergic reactions, family history, and other conditions.  Pharmacists on the other hand may be more up to date with newer drugs, but still, a doctor will prescribe drugs in which long term effects are better understood.

I suspect the internet is responsible for more cases of hypochondriasis.

I think d4 is more difficult to deal with as black. It really seems to limit your options and the concessions you make for your choice of replies seem more limiting also. When I play against e4 as black, I feel like I have many options and better chances. Houdini 1.5 @ 20 plys deep confirms that d4 gives an advantage mathematically also.

Both 1.e4 and 1.d4 should objectively end with 1/2 - 1/2 with perfect play... so its a matter of taste.

ajian

except with 1. e4 it's harder for white to play perfectly

True, I forgot this refutation of 1.e4 :

1.d4 beats 1.e4 by a full 2% across millions of games.  Pretty strong argument AGAINST 1.e4.

I did not favour any of these two moves over the other, but after your statement I'm confident that 1.e4 is best.

I only have to figure out why... Tongue Out

One answer: Why is e4 better than d4.

Why is either d4 and e4 better than e4 and d4?

d4 is better than e4 because patzers like blaming their openings for their failures. Later on, when they switch to d4 and still lose, come to the conclusion that 1.Nh3 is the best first move by far.

When i beat them with e4 i here trash talk,

when i beat them with d4 i hear them running away, crying

and them saying what a beast that d4 is on the chess board.

Having problems beating the 8yr old again?

Hey i guess e4 does not work either and neither does the French Defense or Sicilian.

SupremeOverlord has declared all games a draw from this point foward. None of them work!
