OK, see, for example, what is the 4th question mark in reference to? Do you see where I am going with this?

I will take the "yes" as an apology. You are forgiven.

why d4 is better than e4 it's NOT

At this point, I might as well tell everyone what they want to hear and agree with them...it appears to be the only thing they will accept...

I have tried to get people here to broaden their horizons a bit. Think of this as me leading by example...lol

Pretty much a moot point anyways, since 1.h3 trumps them all.

Why both e4 and d4 are bad:

The only correct move is:

Heh. I like to think that most of us posting (on this particular topic/thread) are, by the virtue of going insofar, as putting forth varied opinions, searching for their own chessic truth. It does matter which pawn you pick to open with. It does matter which variations/opening you follow it with.

What doesn't matter is, is if you think it's the best move or line. Why? Simply, it takes two to "tango". Styles, Experience, Ability, Will, Talent and State of Being, make an game. Not Inferior, Equal, Balanced, Slightly advantageous (etc) openings or moves.

An opinion from an 1. e4 player:

Yaroslavl

If you think about it a better move than e4 or d4 is Nf3 for the following reasons:

1. Develops a piece to its natural and almost always its best square

2. The N is striving for control of d4 and e5

3. Unlike d4 and e4, Nf3 does not create a target pawn on  a central square (d4 or e4) for Black to shoot at.

4. Prevents 1...e5 by Black

5. Keeps Black guessing how White will develop his pawns at d2 and e2.  In other words, does not reveal to Black what White's strategy for center control with his pawns at d2 and e2 will be
