I think it might just be a matter of them not wanting to play against it or possibly just not wanting to play certain people. I do know that . d4 tends to lead to closed, passive positions while e4 leads to more open, sharp positions with lots of potential for attacks on the f7 pawn if you can get there.
Why do blitz players playing black abort 1. d4?
Sort:
They don't know what to play against 1. d4 and they're too lazy to learn anything new, and too cowardly to just play something and see what happens. Obviously a chess player needs to be ready to take on whatever their opponent plays. Aborting because they don't like your first move is incredibly lame and probably against site policy. Imagine someone doing this face to face. 1. d4. "Nope, I don't play that. Goodbye."
I understand that Queen's pawn openings are stereotypically more positional, but shouldn't a chess player be able to play any first move that comes their way? I get I high percentage of players in 5min and 10min blitz aborting after 1.d4. Is a game only worth playing if you like the first move by your opponent? Open to opinions...
