Why players say that traxler countergambit is no good?

Wut? How can he do that? BLACK HAS THE DRAW!! OR maybe not... WHO KNOWS.

PD: NO ENGINES ALLOWED.

Black loses.
xman720

That sums up my variations, yes. It's forced mate in 7.

BronsteinPawn

CONGRATS OPTIMISSED. You win!!!!

BronsteinPawn

xman70, you failed. the move was 8.Qxh7# not Qf8. That one is ugly.

BronsteinPawn

Ill see if I find a way to make the puzzle harder in my dreams. I usually get flashbacks of chess positions in my mind after some good cocaine.

xman720

Why did he win? I got the position first with actual variations to back it up, and shared how many moves until forced mate wink.png

EDIT: I have this weird preference where if I have a choice, I always check with no pieces adjacent to the opponent's king. It looks nicer and i like to imagine that if the king had one more move, he wouldn't be able to capture any of my pieces and take them with him to the grave. So Qf8 every time instead of Qxh7, which kills a black pawn that doesn't need to be killed, doesn't look as nice, and allows 7: ...Kxh7!! taking my queen with him.

There's no such thing as good cocaine. Same as injuns.

BOY IF IT EXISTS

I looked up injuns and it said it is an informal/offensive way of reffering to an American Indian, what does this have to do with cocaine?

Yeah I remember looking over the Alterman series on the Traxler some years ago on chess live, but his analysis was superficial to say the least.

Pfren, I do appreciate you finding that chess cafe article again with them being no longer freely available.  I am still of the opinion that 5.Bxf7+ Ke7 6.Bb3 Qe8 seems much more in line to keep the position playable considering how 6...Rf8 7.Nc3 is so miserable.  The defense itself is certainly better than the reputation it has, but I doubt more than a couple of us have looked over the opening with any level of analysis.

5.d4 it seems like you have to fall back to the old main lines for objective means.

The biggest problem with the Traxler is that even if you solve the refutations, then you have a lot of forced drawing lines.

5.Nxf7 is completely solved to be equal though.  There is nothing to be found there and it should be avoided at the risk of white's peril.

robertjames_perez

Slight  advantage is  ok for me. That's because after playing the first move by e4,d4,c4,or b3,white is slightly better.

robertjames_perez

But the risky play will be ok in a draw if you are in  trouble finding good moves!

robertjames_perez

I have won a game of Trax when my opponent played Bxf7+

Lol. That King's gambit line is so dank. I dont even know what the hell is happening there. I kind of get why computers took out the fun for you.

I kind of like correspondence chess because I never got to live those experiences, but boy if it is demanding to analyze all day.
