Stonewall Dutch

While I gave my opinion on the Dutch (Playable, but gives White many ways to gain a slight edge) earlier, I’ll add that the Dutch is usually played to unbalance the games (It is often played when Black NEEDS a WIN)

GM Nakamura has been known to play the Dutch when he needs a win

The OP's claim at a refutation would not work against me.

I play 1.d4 e6 and then, depending on White's second move along with mood, I follow up with 2...Nf6, 2...d5, or 2...f5.

1.d4 e6!! 2.Bg5 Qxg5!!

BlueBerryAppleSauce

Nakamura played it against Agadmator

The Leningrad Dutch is more sound than the Grünfeld or King’s indian Defense. AlphaZero failed to win any games with those two openings but beat Stockfish beautifully with the Leningrad Dutch. The Dutch is only for those who are fearless and do not take the easy route in chess by playing the Queen’s Gambit Declined which usually ends in a draw. I remember seeing the draw percentages of master games being very high for that.

It's funny how random 1400s online think they know better than hundreds of years of grandmaster practice and engine evaluation.

I never said I did. I just don't understand the opening

The Dutch is allright. In ancient times and in modern time.

Damonevic-Smithlov

Austin Powers dad didn't like the Dutch either.

Riverlandjack

They all hate the Dutch. But they like our red light district.

I don't think anyone actually hates the dutch, it's kind of a joke, like blond jokes or polish jokes or irish jokes.

Riverlandjack

Well my friend I like that kind of jokes. But the Dutch are not very popular these days in Europe.

The dutch is an opening similar to the bird opening.  It may not seem that appealing to lower rated players because they do not understand how to use it.  There is no best opening, there are good advantages as in the dutch an advantge is more space and control in the center.  Two more advantages are you can use the f pawn against the white king and you can quickly, once castled, bring the king rook to f6 then to g6 or h6 and attack the white king.  The main disadvantage is the early exposure of the e8-h5 and g8 to a2 diagonals.

Hold the presses! Magnus Carlsen occasionally plays the Dutch Defense even though an 1115-rated player on Chess, com says it's no good! How can that be?

You can always tell the Sicilians,

You can always tell the Dutch,

You can always tell the French,

But you can't tell them much!

As a Dutch player, it is a tricky opening to play but still viable. The Dutch is an opening where you NEED to know the theory as 2. Bg5 and 2. e4 lead to complicated positions. The Dutch is typically used by higher leveled players because of this. However, if you know the theory the Dutch is a good opening to play.

I know everything there is to know about 2. e4. But 2. Bg5 still gives me problems.
