Yugoslav/English Attack against non-Sicilian openings

The title was a little awkward, but anyway, to the point.

How effective is the Yugoslav/English Attack (knight on d4, bishop on e3, knight on c3, queen on d2, pawn on f3) against games where black doesn't play the Dragon or Najdorf?

For example:

If the Yugoslav/English is played against openings like in the game shown above, are there any aspects of it that are unnecessary (e.g. retreating the bishop to b3, pushing h4-h5, playing Kb1 after castling)?

I dunno about playing the English Attack against the Philidor. ...Ne5, ...Rc8 ...c5, ...b5, ...c4 looks slightly scary.

it's not that often that you'll have that opportunity, here the position indeed pretty much led itself to that plan.

imo here you can delay the bishop retreat (no semi-open c-file) but anyway black probably will play a6-b5-ne5-c5 too (not necessarily in that order) and it'll be a fun game

I use this setup against the Philidor(with the exception of Bc4 as I often put the bishop on e2 instead because my knight often comes to b3) with great results. However, black's attack is often very dangerous and quick. If you don't take the proper defensive precautions, you can get blown off the board.

yeah, b3 isn't a very good square for the b in this line, mostly because of the b5-c5-c4 threat. even after bc4 it's better to retreat to e2 when you have to imo

I think against the this line in the philidor, you can play an different attacking structure with the e4 and f4 pawns and the bishop on e2. The idea would be to use the 4 on 3 pawn majority (which is an attacking structure) against the kingside.

All right, thanks for the feedback.

Whenever I play this setup against a non-sicilian defence by black i always find myself getting pawn forked on  D4 for some reason, so just watch out for that ^.^

But more to the point i have had good fun games using it and if it's a bad opening no one around my level has proven it to me, so I will keep playing it

Bc4 is only played to deter d5 in the dragon. Black can't play that here so the bishop wouldn't need to be there. But since it's already moved Black will benefit from it being there and gain an important tempo in the attack. 7.Be3 Ng4 is also problem. Maybe a better idea is to castle short and pawnstorm that way. Black will play Ne5 at some point (to play c6 and d5). Then you can try Be2, f4 and g4.

In the regular Philidor you can play 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 ed 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Be7 6.Bf4 and then you play Qd2 and castle long.
