Define tactics versus strategy. If it's at the top level, usually the strategical player can grind down the tactical player. If it's at the club level, the person with the strong tactics usually wins.

Kasparov, Ivanchuk, Tal, Shirov and Morozevich are/were all strong tacticians. And people have said that one of things holding Leko back from world champion is his refusal to mix it up. Magnus Carlsen's results have improved now that he is working with Kasparov. Tactics has its place even at the top.

Sound combinations are based on central control and piece mobility, so in that sense, the two are interrelated. Yet, most players do tend to specialize in one or the other. Kramnik or Leko like to trade off queens, while Kasparov or Ivanchuk would prefer to sac their queen. It's not quite the same thing.
Personally I think a tactical player would win out over strategic..stands to reason that Rybka 3 can beat grandmasters over and over. And thats just pure tactics when a computer beats a human. Very little strategy involved, just crunching the numbers thru calculations. Kasparov is a very dynamic player. Great with tactics, but well versed in theory and strategy.
I also tend to think that a good understanding of any position will help the chances of a good tactical strike. So in this case it might be better to be a jack of all trades and master of none.....
hi. tactical or stratagical doesnot matter. the presence of mind to cash the weekness of opponent. think always that your opponent moved a wrong move !!!.This helps you to understand the week points and squares of the opponent.There is a rule in chess. . . the player who commits a mistake is lost. If both the players play a good game then it is a drawn one.

Who wins in a war of Tactics vs. position? pins,forks,traps,skewer setc. Vs. set up development, center, placement, space etc.
