. . . 1927 . . .
Didn't even recognize Nimzo. Is that the only photo of him with a stache? You hit another homerun with this article batgirl. My very first chess book that I got in 1958 had one of Menchik's bright wins against Sir George Thomas and for years and years I tried to replicate her winning position.
I'd never seen another picture of a mustachioed Nimzo.
Very good batgirl. I believe Thomas beat Botvinnik and agreed to a draw in a winning position against Capablanca.
Thomas was no slouch but since his mother won the 1st international women's chess tournament in 1895, he possibly didn't feel the same stigma losing to Menchik as his contemporaries did.

You should read my blogs more!. Thomas beat both Botvinnik and Capablanca. He also resigned a position against Capablanca when he missed a move that would have at least drawn👍
I love the anecdotes about the old time chessplayers. I remember one, but can't find the source or the full quote. Maybe someone knows: Alekhine was watching two duffers playing chess and when he saw one player miss an obvious rejoinder, Alekhine quipped, in German "This move poor Lipshuetz overlooked". Presumably Alekhine was quoting from a German tournament book from the late 1800s. Funny.
