Zhao Zong Yuan made the GM title at the recent Gibraltar Chess Festival with a strong performance. He is the third Australian player to ever get the GM title and he has done it at a record age. The two previous players who have done this, Rogers and Johansen go the title at ages 24 and 35. Zhao Zong Yuan made achieved the GM title at age 21! Because of this great achievement Zhao will become the new Olympiad captain for the Australian team.

We have a new Grandmaster too! Axel Bachmann, born in 1989, he's the second player to ever get the GM title. he made it at age 19
