Who is the best early 1900's Chess Player? I think it is either Capablanca or Alekhine.

Does Fischer and Kasparov not count? Their probably my favourite/best. Botvinnik and Tal are also contenders. I think Emanuel Lasker is one of the most underrated players who is the longest reigning World Chess Champion of any officially recognised in history!!

Has to be Alekhine or Harry Nelson Pillsbury for me.. Frank Marshall was a genius attacker too though, Rudolf Spielmann also

Capablanca too, he was a genius!

oh right i missed the "early" part. in that case yeah Alekhine, but my comment about Lasker still stands.

fabelhaft

Lasker. London 1899 first place with 4.5 points down to Janowski, Pillsbury and Maroczy. Paris 1900 first place with 2 points down to Pillsbury after winning 14 of his 16 games.

When it comes to the best chess player of the early 1900s, there are two names that really stand out: Emanuel Lasker and José Capablanca.

Emanuel Lasker was an absolute legend, holding the World Chess Champion title for a whopping 27 years from 1894 to 1921. He was known for being a strategic mastermind who could outmaneuver his opponents with ease. On top of all that, he was also a mathematician and philosopher whose thoughts on chess theory are still studied today.

José Capablanca was another World Chess Champion who held the title from 1921 to 1927. He was famous for his amazing endgame skills and his uncanny ability to just "get" chess positions without having to think too hard. His influence on the game has been felt for generations.

Both of these players were amazing, so it's really hard to say which one was the best. Lasker's 27-year reign as champion is an impressive feat, but Capablanca's dominance during his shorter time on top is also noteworthy. At the end of the day, it's just a matter of personal opinion as to which one was the best chess player of the early 1900s!

Capablanca was insane at gaining comfortable positions out of the opening against the best players of the time with white and black effortlessly
