Simen Agdestein comes to mind. While he may not ever challenge for the World Championship, he's certainly made an impact on chess at the highest levels.

Don't mean to play Notlesu on you, but Max Euwe was over 60 when Kaspy was born. Doubt that he still boxed in his 70s.
