chess: fun or evil

After so many thought provoking comments so far, I find it interesting to share the impact of chess in life.

In my opinion  continuity to play this game changes your view of thinking. For example if a small worker jumps to a big success merely by favors of surrounding people in a political party or some other social groups seems like a pawn promotion :)

It gives you a far sightedness to see through your plans far ahead of time.

You can even foretell the consequences of certain moves in your life with near precision.

You can prevent from any type of loss by this foresightedness and correct measures to not to lose your material:)

To be continued.....

Any feedback or participation is most welcome !

Thanks,

Chessica

If you wanna watch 'em squirm, you gotta hit the books. You want "just for fun" game? Try playing with both kings removed from the board!

chess should be banned!!!  Its just too violent for words!!  All that killing those cute little pawns, just waiting there to be trampled upon by those horrid, bullying aristocratic knights, not to mention those devious and rather sinister priests!  And of what of that feminist or should I say strident gay Queen! whilst that fat old king just sits there watching.  I say BAN the game god know what it will do to our children.  Lets find a bridge with a stream under it as Ray Brooks suggested and throw sticks into it.

 LOL! Nice!

Chess, as n life, all the fun is n learning.  There is nothing evil, about bettering yourself.  Yet, we all have 2 ultimately ask ourselves: Why, do we (individually) play chess?  U play 4 fun, I play 2 learn.Wink

Chess is the medium to exercise evil.

Chess would have to be evil if it's fun, cause everything fun IS evil.

I just realized , and realized too late ( but its better late than never) , that, for me, chess will stay evil , if I actually do not learn it properly :D

The object of any "game" is not to have fun it is to CRUSH AND DESTROY THE ENEMY!!! Everybody knows that all games are metaphors for WAR, especially chess. Either checkmate (translate KILL) your opponent (translate ENEMY) or force them to commit SUICIDE (translate resign). If all chess was about people having FUN there would be no chess.com.

Actually chess is a fun game ONLY if you just play it with your common sense, but people have made it an  evil game by studying books and adopting pre existing techniques, so much that I some times hate to play. These people actually cheat because they are not playing purely by their mind but by the experiences of  others and that makes it like a job and no fun. I hate those cheaters and so called champions and chess fake gods. I like people who play spontaneously, just using their own mind wisdom, tactics and common sense.Because I like to play for fun not to drop others confidence down.Bringing others self esteem down is no fun and i think its unhuman n cruel. we should treat it just a light game and no more. and play using only your own mind and thinking. I ish we have another chess.com just for fun players who use only their own brains !!!

Thanks,

Chessica

Hi, Chessica! I partly agree with you. I play chess with my brain, not with pre existing techniques. But as we know, some people have a very good memory, they study techniques and use them similar to actors on the stage who repeat studied text. I respect them for their perfect memory.

Happy to meet you dear Chessica! Maybe some day we could play for fun. Could I ask you to be my friend in this nice chess community. We don't need another chess.com, we can make a group for players with analytic thinking.

Yours sincerely ambertale Laughing

The corner is actually better. There are more ways to go wrong.

 Good point!

I may be speaking out of turn, considering I haven't read all 5 pages of this thread and don't exactly know where it's gone, but, the author of this post is essentilaly mad because people study the game?  Personally it sounds to me that you're disapointed because you may have lost to someone who is a superior player? (I'm not looking at your stats, you could very well be an excellent player... for all I know you're a grand master, but, It's just an idea).

The fact is you mention "Pre-existing techniques", I may be wrong, but, isn't that what a chess opening IS? It's already been discovered, written, and published in many a books, articles, and websites, however, everyone (Even Grandmasters) use them in their games. They may be pre existing, but, they've held true. The fact is, if you KNOW a certain opening strategy works for you, why wouldn't you use it?

As a matter a fact, even if you've played only a few games of chess in your life, the most common first moves are pawn E2 to E4 and then K G1-F3 (My notation may be incorrect), they are pre-existing ideas, but, they aren't without their merit. The Pawn gains control of an important center piece and the Knight  will also start developing the center.

You further mention "I hate those cheaters and so called champions and chess fake gods."

To me, you're sounding a bit like Bobby Fischer. Genius chess player - Pshyco in real life (Or, at least from what little I know about him).

Oh yeah, you shouldn't ever do that! (on the other hand, it's good not to let yourself get distracted). Smile
