CHESS WORLD CHAMPIONS

Sort:
ChessReina

Although at the beginning of the Middle Ages there were always chess players who were considered "the best of their time", it was in the 19th century when, for the first time, a teacher proclaimed himself the champion of the world of chess, and Was recognized as such, at least tacitly, by his contemporaries. So, the list of world champions - unofficial and official - begins in the tenth century and, with inevitable gaps, I will try to make them known as coming to our days.

Many great things...For instance, USSR still was a country. In 1989 the Berlin wall did fall down, and in 1991 the USSR was divided. So in the second time that Karpov won the world championship, he was not representing the USSR. :)
