Yes, and he understood how quickly under developed parts of the world could improve economically if the didn't have to make the capital investment required for electrical infrastucture. He haad over 300 patents and had many inventions that he never bothered patent. One of his cleverest inventions IMHO didn't have anything to do with electricity. It was a "bladeless" water pump that used the boundry layer effect of liquids to pump water. Metallurgical science was up to the task of providing a material that was durable enough at the time, but it has been made succesfully since. A truly brilliant mind.
