I think the chess world was very lucky that when he played for the world championship his opponent was Spassky. I doubt if there are many world class players who against their country's wishes would stay and finished a match after Fischer skipped the second game. As far a who would had won (providing Fischer stuck around till the end) I would give a slight edge to Fischer although really thanks to fischer we will never really know. One thing i do know is Karpov was a fighting champion unlike Fischer.
Fischer vs Karpov

Fischer, Karpov would not be able to squeeze a Sicilian defense.
Actually, I think Karpov has the highest ever winning percentage against the Sicilian. He quit playing 1.e4 against Kasparov due to Kasparov's Scheveningen - testament to how awesome Kasparov was with the black pieces. Also, Spassky, a lesser player than Karpov, did some real damage to Fischer's favorite Najdorf in their world chess championship match.
Both guys were first rate grinders and it would have been an interesting (boring by the standards of most chess fans) match.

Karpov isnt an attacking player, he is missing the testosterone a man and every chess player needs (that is why Women should take steroids) no wonder why his voice is like that.
He had nice attacking positions against Kasparov yet he was such a big sissy, never pulling the trigger and letting Kasparov survive.

That doesn't change the fact that he had higher winning percentages as white against the Sicilian than either Fischer or Kasparov, by squeezing it at that.

I dont know where did you got that info from.
Could you share the source?
I dont knwo the win per opening for them but I do know that Fischer won 72 percent of his games while Karpov had "only" 65 percent.

I dont think Karpov has anything to hang his head about:
His tournament successes include over 160 first-place finishes
90 total months at world number one is the second longest of all-time, behind only Garry Kasparov
World Champion1975–85. 1993–99 (FIDE)
Karpov represented the Soviet Union at six Chess Olympiads, in all of which the USSR won the team gold medal.
In five world championship matches with Kasparov, Karpov scored 19 wins, 21 losses, and 104 draws in 144 games.
Karpov is on record saying that if he had had the opportunity to play Fischer for the crown in his twenties, he could have been a much better player as a result.

But you can tell his testosterone levels are low.
i never get that close & personal ...

I dont need to do so, Im a professional at my life, Im well educated, humble, Im simply Trump.
You can tell by his voice he is low on testosterone, at least if you actually read books.
BABE, A PIG IN THE CITY STRIKES AGAIN.

I don't think that any credible follower of the game of Chess would doubt that Karpov was a phenomenal player. His record speaks for itself. It seems though that several posters here need your timely reminder of Karpov's superlative playing record

I know Karpov was a beast, but which dude is more popular? Kasparov or Karpov?
Which dude was invited to the Sinquifield Blitz showdown? Which dude comes to our mind when we think of chess players beasts?
Kasparov, of course!

Karpov at his best reached the same rating as Fischer. At some point, Karpov would have beaten Fischer, but I don't know when that would have been. What I do know is that the world lost some brilliant chess games because Fischer decided to hide rather than play Karpov.

At every point future generations will beat their ancestors, no matter how great they were.
I do believe Kasparov was best in terms of achievements but Karpov was probably ranked 4th or 5th all time depending on where you put Fischer and older grays like Casablanca who was arguably the most positional player ever and modern players like Magnus or even Anand who is very tactical
