I like archery. I prefer recurve bows over compound. Is tenpin bowling like the bowling we do in the US?
Why are there so less female chess-players?

I just find it odd that for all the numerous social reasons one might have for a disinterest in chess people would rather go out on a limb and search for genetic ones if they even exist at all.
The genetic theory behind the mind of a chess player...

And don't forget organic gardening competition at your state's Native Plant Society. Lots of (male/female) natural selection going on there.
Clearly, @Kitchey could pontificate on that as well.
Evolutionary Psychology 101 is a pretty heady course, at least for some.

This is a little off topic but in the neighborhood- I don't know what to make of it-
Almost all of the women who post pictures of (themselves?) as their avatar are drop dead georgeous. Are most women chess players physically beautiful? This was pointed out to me by my best friend who is a woman chess player- so don't start making oink noises to mock me.
Perhaps this isn't true and these are just the ones that we've noticed. :D
They are all people who pretend to be women who pretend to be chess players. Behind the fake pic is always a 50 year old guy who is morbidly obese with a triple chin and a beergut. Chess.com is his only chanjce to get someone to says that he/she is gorgeous.

Yeah, like Annabella

In my opinion everything done in extreme and compulsively is aggressive.... Chess is no different. My other group CHESS FOR THE FUN OF IT was called that for a reason. In the end, chess is just a game. Some play it to beat their oponent and boast about their.. chess skills. That will never happen with me for several reasons.
!.) People and their feelings are more important to me then chess will
ever be.
2.) If its not fun for my oponent it is no fun for me.
3.) Its not always about winning.. its how you are paying the game. If you approach chess like war. Everyone loses... even the winner

Chess is in essence a pass-time for friends. The idea was to spend time together and enjoying each other while venturing in some kind of measure of intellectual strength and creativity. It was played a lot in thr salons of people with culture. A lot of men were able to spend time with the lady of their dreams over the chess board. They tried to mate each other :-) Also in a club, the social aspect is more valuable than the technical proficiency. The drink, the laughter, the meeting of old friends. Is playing cards not as agressive?? The internet risks destroying the essence.
Nice observations.
Haha, really wafflemaster? I would have guessed you were a total tennis fan
