meh.. do you even need any special reason for cancel participation at any tournament.. everybody should do what they want... if he doesnt wanna go there why he should do that? and why should anyone care why exactly he doesnt want...
the best thing what you can do for famous people is just let them live their lives in peace and dont always complain about what they should do and what not... just go and do it better by yourself if you don't like it

You don't really have to waste 132 words to say total nonsense- you can cut it much shorter than that. And the bad thing is that it's not the first time you are doing that.

Yeah, I can't really blame anyone for dropping out of a chess tourney for covid reasons when the area is in a hard lockdown. I'm amazed that they're having as many chess tournaments as they are.
I think golden bear should have participated in his local otb tournament last month but he is a snowflake and ducked can you believe it!

I think 6 out of 114 dropped out of the open (top tournament). 5 of the top 10! So there are 108 playing.
I don't think any of the women dropped out of the womens tournament. All 50 are playing.
So 96.3% of the players ARE playing.

Update: 26 October
Since this article was published more players have dropped out, including 3rd seed Alexander Grischuk, 5th seed Richard Rapport, 6th seed Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and 13th seed Liem Quang Le. In the women's event top seed Kateryna Lagno has also pulled out. Alexei Shirov decided to play at the last moment.
If Grischuk didn't play Lagno ain't playing. They're married. But overall, a very high % played.
