a streak at french leaugue, winning the US open, winning the world open, winning the donestia!

Donestia is the first category 18th tourney of hikaru and he sliced through it like a magical samurai..

GM Nakamura next serious chess tourney will be the one that will be held in England this december and Corus A.

Yeah I'm excited, all of the chess snobs turn their noses up at him.  "He isn't facing his contemporaries like Carlsen yada yada."  Especially since he turned down the Corus B invitation.  People forget that he beat Karjakin in a match in 2004. (Winner of 2008's Corus A).  A part of me is concerned though, American's want another Bobby Fischer so bad I think it may be overwhelming to a player.  It almost drove Gata to quit chess completely.  I'm hoping he does well, but managing expectations at the same time...

I hope his "methods" continue to work.  I think him having a NM as a second on the world stage clearly is bold... but hey, it's been working so far lol

I played Nakamura at the 2009 U.S. Open in a simul (full game on my profile, pictures in my album). He faced 26 opponents, ranging from 1600 to 1900, and beat us all. He's friendly too! I got his autograph.

Isnt Robson reputed to be the next/new Fischer now ? I dont think we are ever gonna see another like Fischer, not this century anyway. How many Capablancas have their been since Capablanca ?

On the other hand, good players aren't evenly distributed- 50 Capablanca's could all come along at once.

The problem is in the US many good young players come along and leave as chess is a very hard way to  make a living. Kamsky withdrew for a number of years, Wolff, Rachels, Wilder all gave it up.

Robson,Hess, Shankland are all very young talents in the US who are playing amazing, Nakamura also seems to have notched up his game some.

I hope none of them become another Fischer as his live did not seem all that great to me (though his chess was mazing) but are able to balance living a normal life and reaching the top tier of the chess world.

Hikaru is from my old neighborhood. We are all very proud of his stellar accomplishments.

If they werent abandoned by both parents then they already have an advantage over Fischer as far as having a normal life goes. I knew Rachels very well and have talked to him about his reasons for quitting chess. He said the life style of the top chess pros didnt appeal to him, he wanted to stay at home, have a dog, a family, a garden, etc. He did also mention the income, which he said was too unreliable and fluctuated wildly. Rachels is one of the nicest people I have ever met, in or out of chess. He is now a professor at Alabama U in Tuscaloosa.

Let's see how he fares in Corus. That will be interesting. But true, he is playing good, and his chess is refreshing Smile

I agree with the above. I just have a feeling that he is not quite world champion calibre, but 'just' another 2700+ player. Time will tell i guess.

There are 33 players currently over 2700. I would think any of the top 10 have more realistic chances of being WC than Nakamura does. Corus will be the biggest test he has faced, lets see how he does there where he will face several of the world's elite players.

The most updated, but unofficial, list is the live top list:

 http://chess.liverating.org/

Nak has made great moves in the list in recent months ( NM Depressnyak's post).

Next assignment is to meet the top 10 and top 5 toe-to-toe and prove himself among them.

Hikaru is immensely talented and I think after 2010 he has a great chance to be in the top 10, and be a real challenger to the World title.

This might be a bold statement, but he has finally totally focused on chess. The gains from such focus have been phenomenal. He has been playing a wide range of events with one constant he keeps winning.

He needs to get more invites to the top events to prove himself even further. However given the opportunity I see him succeeding.

I am waiting with great anticipation for Corus this year.

who of you here noticed that GM nakamura add 100 elo points in a matter of 6 months?

from nowhere near 2700 after he fell off from it last year he surge upward in a great leap with winning one tourney after another gaining 2735 as of the latest count and thats 15th spot in world ranking.

can anybody name another  GM who gain a 100 elo  point in a matter of 6 months and that surging headlong towards the top 10?

naka is not shy in saying he want to be a world champion, he coupled his words with effort, to the bashers watch out because history is unfolding before your eyes.

im a karjakin fan and wesley so fan too but among the juniors im intently following its naka who is surging upwards with great determination as of the moment.

alexander the great was asked in his death bed if who  gonna take his role , he said "to the strongest!"

the strongest and most determined will take the world crown.
