does anyone know a titled  player who are brave enough to play untitled players risking losing there high status

Titled players play untitled players all the time. I don't get the question.

From my limited experience playing titled players here, the only thing they're risking is their patience with my incessant questions.

It doesn't take much bravery for them to wipe the floor with the likes of us.

ive tried lots of times to play titled players as your own rating drops a little when you lose but if you win your rating shoots and theres drops fast

You will more readily have your challenges accepted when you are rated over 2000. As it stands at the moment, any titled player would receive zero points for beating you and lose 30-40 for losing. Not very attractive for the titled player, eh?

Like most things in life, you have to work your way up.

Titled players are facing untitled opponents quite often in open real-live events. Also, if the untitled player is good enough in blitz, he is also likely to confront the titled guys.

As to those who think that the pros owe them something and are supposed to entertain them: I don't expect Carlsen to contact me online and offer me a friendly blitz game Smile

Maybe if more of that sort of thing happened between really good chess players it would be good for the sport ?

You could try promoting a rating >2100 tournament, and just before it starts, lower the rating level to just under you own level and press the "Start tournament"-button.

Then you're going to play a lot of games against both titled and untitled high-rated opponents.

Smart, ay?

Now, find a player >2100 that would happily jump in a tournament created by someone none has heard of before.

But there is a simple way to get titled player to play against club players : pay them. You can even get them to play simultaneous events, or blindfold. Isn't this incredible ?

Weeeell "Iron(y)tiger". You asked for it: De lux (>2100)

Damn it.

I don't feel like arguing that chess.com ratings are not real ratings, but you are lucky I wasn't in trollish mood.

So I'm just going to make a vodoo figurine of a hand pointing two fingers and burn it intead.

This seems to help create opportunities to get games with titled players...

Probably two ways - either become strong and get your rating up to a range that interests them,

or - just make friends and/or ask them to play - you never know, some of them may say yes.

PS: Do you - or anyone else who reads this - wanna be there to play when I lower the rating criterium and start the tournament?

I do not want to take part in that swindle. So no thanks Tongue Out

Luring high-rated players into a high-standards tournament and then changing the rating limit to slip in : this is what I call a swindle, min kjære venn. Not forbidden, but nothing to be proud of either.

It's not that I am afraid to lose against higher-rated players - actually I would be more afraid to lose against lower rated players. I mean, I am going to lose, and what ? It was expected.

Since titled players get free access to chess.com, maybe chess.com could make a rule that says titled players have to play so many games with untitled players each month. The games would be unrated so the titled players wouldn't lose rating points if they lose.

Chess.com would only make that rule if they don't want titled players coming here.

Chess players, regardless of playing strength, want to be free to play whomever they want. Someone such as Fabiano Caruana could charge a full year's subscription for even one casual game against an amateur.

Let titled players play who they want to play.

what's the ratio between titled/untitled? 1:500? or more? Geez, get real, if every patzer wants a game they'll never get to play real chess.

If you look at the game histories of active titled players here, they do play untitled players. What they usually don't do is play people who are significantly lower rated than themselves.

Chess.com entices titled players with free memberships because the mere presence of titled players draws in more players of all abilities to the site. These titled players have already earned the few perks that chess can offer. They don't owe anything more.

This is an important point. Though (almost ?) all titled players play untitled players at least once in a while, it does not solve the OP's problem, which is basically that all untitled players play titled players at least once (say) in 10 years.

BTW, I doubt titled players use premium resources as much as paying patzers do. Tactic trainer, certainly ; but for instance live ches tournaments ? Computer analysis ? (hint : I doubt the chess.com analysis is much better than the Rybka/Houdini/Shredder/whatever they use)

Avatar of Irontiger

I think you miss my point.

Although we could compell titled players to play once in a while against untitled - which most of them already do - it doesn't mean than the average untitled player has a significant chance to play one titled player even once. Because, as already written before me, the ratio titled / untitled is small.

So that is just annoying to titled players, without being of real help to untitled. I don't believe in the nice gesture, symbol, etc. thing - very soon you will have patzers complaining that they waited 10h in the live chess and couldn't catch a titled player.
