I think he is running his parent's leather business.
Reasons:
1.Playing chess might be his passion but in India there is a very little chance that a passion becomes profession.
2.Multiplying 4 digit numbers in mind, knowing weekday of any date etc are quite common for those who prepare for competitive exams.
In the early 90's (or late 80's) I met a young man from India on a plane from Copenhagen to Frankfurt. We talked, and he told me that he was on his way to a fashion fare in Milano. His parents owned a leather business, and wanted him to take over the business. He, however, only wanted to play chess. His dream was to become a Grandmaster. He was quite exceptional. He could multibly four-digit numbers in his head faster than I did on my calculator. He also knew the weekday of any date. So he had some special skills. When we parted in Frankfurt, we exchanged adresses with the intention of becoming pen pals. I have now lost this name and adress. And I am curious: Did he ever become a Grandmaster? The only clues I have are:
-he is now in hi searly 40's
-his parents run a leather fashion firm
-he is from India
-he was something of a wonder child
Anyone?
