Is Aronian overrated

Ranked #2 somehow but no one even pays attention to him. Did he cheat his rating or something? He's done nothing but let down the chess world and his fans. I'm sick of it. The real current #2 is Fabiano Caruana.

Till_98

yes he cheated. I often gave him tips myself and he also had houdini, stockfish and other decent engines involved on the toilet. Only with my help he was able to get as good as he is now....

Aronian is an excellent player. As far as my tired mind can recall, everyone was talking about him a year ago, but he seemed to go through a spell where he was taking too many risks, making mistakes, etc., and other players who were playing better (like Caruana) took the spotlight. I'm pretty sure it was only last year that there was frequent discussion about him challenging Magnus, though.

Superqueen500

I suspect that he participated in fixed tournaments where opponents would purposely lose so he could increase his rating. He's more of a 2750 player not even the top 10.

First he was supposed to be playing Anand for the world chess championship, but then Gelfand won. Then he was supposed to be playing Carlsen for the world chess championship, then Anand won. Maybe he'll go down in chess history as one of the best players never to play for the championship(that we know of)?

nah, theres players on here that if they didnt wish to remain anonymous, and never play otb and get otb grades and ratings, would win the world championship for years to come

I love how chess publishers are STILL referring to Magnus-Aronian games as a "big clash" when in reality Aronian's last classical win against Carlsen was in like 2012. The guy is so overhyped and everyone falls for the trap "he will be a difficult adversary for the norwergian to overcome"! NOPE. Lately all their games are a win for Carlsen or a lucky draw for Aronian. It's sad that the current world #2 is no competition for the world #1. I am 100% positive that Aronian's elo is somewhat inflated due to playing in some tournaments where his opponents purposely lost. These tournaments are small ones that don't have the top GMs, just no namer IMs and GMs like the suspicious one in brazil. Tata steel 2014 was just him playing well, any strong 2700 could have played well in 1 tournament. Aronians REAL elo is ~2750 when you subtract his rigged wins.

Indeed. As OP, you seem, like totally unabashed in an player who's ranked #2 in the World. Woo. I can only imagine your playing ability vs the #10 in your country. Like like 2750 is an pushover rating. Wow. You must be World-class yourself ta be making such critique. Cool.

Well, Superqueen, Carlsen himself wouldn't agree with you...

Gred455

Way too weak. He lost against Nakamura in the 2012 World Blitz.

Carlsen a while ago was overrating Aronian by saying "he's tough, I expect him to win the candidates yadayada" just like he used to overrate Anand in 2008 by saying he was way better and the best chess player alive. Now Carlsen probably looks at him like an ant.

I dont care if titled players disagree I've been doing lots of research. Levon Aronian is the most overrated chess player ever. /endofstory.

Seriously???? Levon Aronian Almost WIPED magnus Carlsen last time they played. Carlsen was saved by a miracle. He needs to win important games yes, but other then that he is an amazing player. As for him cheating watch the Levon Aronian video from the Sinquefield cup about him adressing cheating.
