I mean better in an offensive way. Attacking power, as well as capacity to protect its pawns and other pieces. In the endgame, the king is not just a lazy butt watching all the action from a confortable position, it's an active piece fundamental to achieve victory, and in that duty it may be more useful than a bishop.

It's not likely that the king would marry a commoner. But again, he marries every pawn that makes to the eigth rank, I wonder what he'd do to someone who made to the second base...

You´re right, if You count the worth of every piece in pawnparameters, bishop, knight is as worth as 3 pawns, rook 5 pawns, Queen 7 pawns and so on, King is as worth as 5 pawns, i read it one day in an russian chessbook although it depends on the pawnposition, f.e. 2pawns connected on the 6th/3rd rank are as worth as one rook, if they walk to promtion with kingssupport and the better king than bishop f.e. must prevent enemys Bishop/Kingsunit from promoting Your own pawn ore eliminating last pawn/s on the other side.

i remember of an old comment of Micheal Tal over the Queen in one of his games:
"The queen alone is no good warrior, she always need or gives support". So f.e. an active knight with queenssupport has more power than bishop/queen on the other side. (queen/knightsunit can create more matethreats than queen/bishop)

the king is chubby and can only move 8 positions for a turn. The queen is thin.
