Seirawan for one
That would be Silman for the most part.
Lol, sorry, not wasting time looking for something that's wrong anyway (N over B) especially for a wuss hiding behind anonymity. You wanna find it, you search for it, it's in his columns weekly).
He says it over and over (with so much qualification, backpeddling, couching, and counterexamples that you are bound to miss it) He must be a libra he is so wishy washy.
And you? You've proven you're Silman's litigator and main defender as though he needs you ! Lol! Quick rush to his defense! Ha ha.
Seirawan for one; Kotov's better, Naroditsky, Tal, Bronstein, Kasparov, Nimzovitch, you know, real chessplayers, not excuse makers as to why "I'm still just stuck at IM."
As i thought, no proof. Thats ok, if his books didnt work for you, nothing wrong with that. We all learn differently. Try reading why he is just an IM
Want to realize just how much you know about chess?
Play a REAL beginner. You know, first 4 moves are a3, c3, e3, g3. They castle queenside and put their king on b1 rook on c1. Stuff like that.
This forum's about helping Robert0905 not a Jesus freak, so you do your own research instead of being just so defensive and self-righteous. He asked, and I told.
Fact of the matter is my wife one day said, "how can you win defending every pawn, every piece, you gotta sacrifice stuff and get out of your own way." Suddenly everything Sillyman's said was wrong and my wife who knows NOTHING about chess is completely right and my rating went to 1840 in a couple months. That's beginner mind.

Exactly, we are here to give our opinions. I think Silmans books will help him, you dont. Opinions given. What you gave was an opinion, backed up by incorrect facts. Now if Silman doesnt work for you, thats ok. Just give reasons, not incorrect statements.
Yeah, well the dare is on you to demonstrate from a real game of yours something you actually learned from Sillyman. Knight outpost? Rooks to the open file? Please.
Look, we'll play together, and you can play your way, even let you go first.

As you said... this is about helping Robert. Im sorry i dented your ego.
Are his books as good as their reputation?
Robert, let me first apologize for this train wreck your post turned into. Now to answer your question again. Silmans books IMO are worth the investment. But its up to you, to determine that. Try checking one out at a library, and give it a shot.

No need to apoligize. It's not your fault.
Unfortunately, the only chess books at my local library are some basic pandolfini books, but I am hoping to get The Amatuer's Mind next week.
His books are quite good- especially the endgame course. The only issue (is it really an issue?) is that you can find better ones, and at a better price.
For example as a substitute of his endgame course I could suggest Panchenko's 2-volume endgame course, published by the Russian company Convekta, which are better laid-out, have more material, and are also available in electronic peshka format.
It's probably a bad misconception of mine, but if I had to choose between a Russian book and a book from "another country", I would pick the Russian one without much thought- chances to go worng are quite limited.
The OP got his answer after this post.
I haven't even heard of the books pfren suggests, but I'm going to get them. You can never go wrong with an unbiassed opinion by an expert.

anyone under 1800 on chess, com IS a beginner.
And by what reasoning are you saying this?
By the reasoning he doesn't understand the meaning of the word beginner I assume! 1800 puts you in the top 2-3% percentile in live chess. Certainly not expert level, but even more clearly not beginner either!
