There must be a slight temptation to bend the rules in order to win - and then the winner ends up getting booted as well.
This strikes me as somewhat juvenile , and shouldn't the match contain an even number of games ?

Which person should we be rooting for? I've never heard of either one of you. If you want to drum up support, you should launch a campaign to introduce yourself. Or maybe more effectively, a mud-slinging attack to demonstrate why we're better off without the other guy. Of course, more information might be dangerous-- what if everyone decides they like the other guy better?
Hey, that's it! Instead of resorting to some silly game, why don't you let all of us vote as to which of you has to leave forever? Sort of like the Andy Kaufman vote for Saturday Night Live, except this would be a head-to-head competition. Chess.com Survivor. 
The loser just has to send a flood of incoherent abusive PMs to Kohai or Erik, that should do the trick
