I don't know, I started reading the article once, and never finished it. It made me quite disgusted to read about Fischer's treatment knowing that he laughed at people being burned alive.

waffllemaster

So poor treatment is justified as long as they've said bad things (later in life)?

He was always crazy, so it's harder for me to have that revenge mindset anyway.

I don't think he was so mistreated as his pamphlet suggests.

But if it did happen it woudln't be right, right?

trysts

Are you defending this jackass?

waffllemaster

Are you just making a point?  Smile

trysts

Yes. Fischer had about as much empathy as a flame-thrower.

waffllemaster

Not everyone has been as blessed with tolerance as you Trysts Kiss

waffllemaster

But yeah, Fischer was a nasty human being -- at least in his later years.

"Are you just making a point?"

At least we can all agree that Fischer was the greatest chess player of all time....or is it Kasparov, or Karpov, or Carlsen or Capablanca or someone else? Someone should start a thread on this, maybe I will.

waffllemaster

I dunno, are you defending a jackass?  Tongue out

Is this directed towards me? Is there some reason you're calling me a "jackass"?

eddiewsox

You mean Fischer, Kasparov, Karpov, Carlsen, Capablanca, Rush or myself? In any event, my all means NO.

I guess I misinterpreted the quote below.

But in any case I'm just poking fun Trysts, you seem pretty serious.

Tryst, I've never read of Jews being burned alive. Where did you read this---or did you just make it up, like you often do.

Aren't the facts horrid enough without your hysterical exaggeration!

Not that it matters one way or another but,  cite your sources!

lots of luck---my little desert flower.

Fischer thought planes exploding into the WTC, and people being burned alive was funny. He was being interviewed at the time.

Twobit

Again, judging Fischer as "nasty", "jackass", whatever is slightly unfair, since you can not call him crazy in the same sentence. If he was crazy, he can be defended by insanity argument. Obviously he had mental problems, but that should not be used as a counter-argument to question his true greatness and contribution to chess.

This kind of talk is what put Fischer in Prison some yrs later. This is what I said right here on this site some time ago--Put Fischer in a room full of people who lost loved ones in the WTC. If he is still alive after 10 minutes then throw his ass in jail.

There were a lot of nuts that came out of the woodwork about the WTC. I remember Rosie O'Donald saying our government did it. As did Michael Moore and many others. It was like the Kennedy Assassination all over again.

What exactly is your feelings about the WTC disaster?

I don't care about Rosie O' Donnell, but the evidence suggests that the WTC attack was, at the very least, allowed to happen by the highest of governmental officials in the U.S.
