You guys are too smart! GM Timur Gareyev is absolutely correct. Maybe I should have used IMBacon's clue. The first time I saw him he had blue/purple hair cut in a Mohawk style. I'll post another master in a few days. Hopefully it will be more of a challenge than my first try.
OK guys here is the next one...
- He defeated 4 world champions (Fischer, Tal, Petrosian & Smyslov).
- He did time in a soviet concentration camp after a failed attempt to defect to the west.
- The opening that bears his name (in most of the world) is named after a river in the east.

I know Timur :-) I've played him in a simul before, he also comes to my state quite often.
