Story of Wesley So, and how he is one of the top players in the world

krazeechess

Does someone know his story? I had heard that he learned chess and practiced at first using bottle caps or something like that, but im not sure. I will update this first post after someone gives me a good answer, so then i can copy paste in here.

His original parents were nuts. His adoptive parents were missionaries... so also nuts, but at least they supported him.

That's about all I know. - llama45

So originally played chess for the Philippines, until he moved to the USCF in 2014 because of corruption. I heard he was cheated 1 million php (about 21 grand) by the Philippines' chess federation. Not sure if that's true but I remember that it was kind of a big thing back then. - alekhineslovechild

Yeah, he is only rated 2700 or so. That seems like quite a low ranking.

Oh, that is very low. It is so low that even Magnus could crush him.

But Magnus did not crush him yesterday...

Spelling Wesley wrong in the title wasn't a good start to his story...

I knew it looked wrong, but I couldn't tell why and I was too lazy to find out
