Worth watching for entertainment? Maybe.
Worth watching because you will learn about chess? Absolutely not.

You think so? I just watched the one where he explained how he defended against the Fried Liver attack and found it to be pretty informative. What is wrong with his chess teaching?
There was a whole hundred+ post forum thread about him a few months back. It looks like it's gone - a shame, there was a lot of interesting commentary there.
I actually tried to search the forums for "Backyard Professor" but came up with nothing. That's why I posted this. So what's his deal? I just found out about him today.
I thought in the fried liver one he dropped a piece right out of the opening by playing his king to the wrong square? And didn't even realise that his opponent had won the sacrificed piece back.
Either way he got a worse position while repeatedly calling his opponent a patzer.
Another game I remember someone saying he was losing while telling the viewers he had a good position, his opponent blundered a queen, and he put the win down to other factors. He has a FIDE rating <800 IIRC...
An interesting thing about "Kerry Shirts," AKA Backyard Professor, is that his web site at http://www.backyardprofessor.com/the_backyard_professor/ doesn't mention chess one time. It's all about biblical exigesis and what not. wierd.
And while he may be rated U800 in FIDE, as as far as I saw, The Backyard Professor is rated 2299 USCF.
I have followed some of his video and found that he is a die hard fan of Jeremy Silman, like the way he narrate the whole game, i mostly go for his expressions.

hmmm...lol

I looked it up, and found no match at all.
Well there's no listing for "Kerry Shirts" in the FIDE directory either.
Well there was because someone posted a link on the previous thread, and he mentions playing a tournament in one of his videos.
I like that guy's channel. Definitely not the strongest player, but I like that his style of presentation is a lot less dry than other Youtube chess channels (i.e. him being in front of the camera with his demo board, and looking like he's having a good time). It's also nice to see a channel targetting beginners that want to improve.
Yeah..well this is the first video i came across.. But i dont think any good player will blunder a queen.
I'd love for that to be true!
But yeah, he acted like the opponent had a lost position after he found the book move d5 against Ng5, played Ke8 in response to Qf3 in the Fried Liver mainline without even seeming to realise it gives the piece back and laughing at the patzer who has a winning position.
BTW, how the hell is the black player here rated so high?

There are some other shocking games. Was thinking of making a thread, but not sure it will get replies seeing as they are hard to find by searching for them.
This guy is 2506? http://www.chess.com/games/view?id=289187
So what's the deal with this backyard professor guy? Is he worth watching? I notice he also has videos posted on the internets teaching how to make chicken coops and about religion and politics.
Or is this guy a spoof?
