The greatest defenders in the modern era

There you go again, trysts: making the horrible faux pas of actually telling the truth in a forum thread!

Carlsen is probably the best defender right now but that's because his unconventional play nets him into more trouble than the other GMs who specialize in just one opening.

Defensive skills are no doubt an important part of the give-and-take of a GM game, but they don't have the pizzazz of a winning attack.

it's true, he can't tell the difference lol

Tigran V. Petrosian was the game's greatest defender because he saw deeper into the attacker's plan than the attacker did. Like a spider to the fly: All who enter foreswore their doom. Like the great Russian spirit that successfully defended against Napoleon & Hitler.
Hello!
I wanted to start a discussion of the best chess defenders around today. Who are the best defenders? A chess player's "career" is a mosaic of one thousand and one blunders, and having made many a blunder in my day, I understand the importance of being able to defend. From what I've heard, any list should include Magnus Carlsen, Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand, Hikaru Nakamura, and Fabiano Caruana. However, I imagine most of the top players excel in defense. Any thoughts?
