The Troubled mind of Bobby Fischer

I've watched a number of Fischer's interviews in which he made hate comments and displayed great racism! What was wrong with him?Why did he turn out like that?

Sunofthemorninglight

it seems the world is not free of such things, so there are many candidates for those energies to affect someone.

i dont know but even so i dont agree with what he said, i think we shouldnt take away from him the right to say what he says and believes what he says. I mean it justs pretty convenient to say well, he was just crazy thats why he said that, because then we can live all easy again. I mean we must not say it was good or acceptable, but i think we shouldnt take from someone the right to determine his own life. especially if he was such a great mind as fischer. were will that end, and who will be the judge?? i mean its like french revolution a pawn will kill a king.

Yeah,I agree but shouldnt there have been a concrete reason for his hatred towards certain communities and countries? Was he wronged in some way?

there were probably like a million reasons for that, but as i said we shouldnt just take his right for self determinism and talk for him. We can only guess and we shouldnt claim that its the truth just because it is convinient and it sounds somewhat logical.

We shouldnt claim anythin but atleast we can make some assumptions or share our knowledge about the issue!

TetsuoShima

yes you are right

well i guess because many people were jewish in chess and even so max euwe wasnt jewish, i think there was still the case that for him the same standards didnt apply as for other worl champions. Even Kasparov said, Karpov got what they refused to Fischer. Also america used his win for propaganda, but did absolutly nothing when euwe stripped him of the title. I believe america definetly had the power to influence that and on the same time, they wanted to prosecute him for playing spassky in yugoslavia. is that how you tread a hero that won the cold war??

As i said, there were many influencial jewish people. Thats why i think it might be the case.

But what do i know, maybe he was religious and his priest said things that convinced him they are evil, or he watched television and didnt like what happened in palestine.

Most of his views really don't bother me that much, aside from the fact that they are patently stupid.  He probably developed many of them before he could have been said to be mentally ill, but judging by his actions and manner of speaking towards the end of his life I don't think there is much doubt that he began to suffer from some kind of mental illness at some point.

well you know i like really many jewish players and many are pretty cool.

but you cant honestly tell me its more stupid then the logic to say that the germans are bad and thats why we take the land of the arabs(and that universally accepted logic )?

i mean come on, really you want to tell me that is more stupid????

I personally think he never did anything that shows some kind of mental illness, besides when you search for it you could find a mental illness in everyone.

first of all, fischer was jewish. second he did not "win the cold war". and while it is certainly true that fide gave fischer a bum deal due to the pressure from the soviets and then gave karpov ten times what fischer had asked for, this does not mean in his later life he was not highly dellusional and paranoid.

David R. Hawkins sheds light on this in general.

Well Fischer wasn´t jewish, he was christian. Jewism isnt a race its a believe, fischer chose not to believe in it. you cant make fischer a jew if he says he doesnt want one to be. I never said Fischer won the Cold war, but thats certainly propaganda people used.

besides i believe he wasnt  delusional and also i doubt he wasnt paraniod.

I mentioned the book before, published last year: A Psychobiography of Bobby Fischer. Written by Joseph Ponterotto, a professor of counseling psychology. Undertitle: "Understanding the genius, mystery, and psychological decline of a World Chess Champion."

I got it as a present with Xmas and am still reading it. The study is very well researched and the book is a good companion for those who also read Frank Brady's biography Endgame.

It is for sure I think that Bobby missed both parental and professional guidance when he was still a young kid. And it also for sure I think that at later age counseling could have helped him. With help he could have been a happier guy - and probably the chess world would have benefited a little as well.

Maybe another reason was because he chose to be in solitude and lead a sociopathic life maybe!

Sunofthemorninglight

solitude must've driven buddha crazy!!  lol

i ment related to the book with the title how fischer won the cold war(with the logic, the guy who they said won the cold war). its just a showcase of my bad semantics. im not very profound in the english language or any language at all.  im not mentally ill, im just stupid. i shouldnt have goten involved in the first place, the americans have a very nice saying. they say dont assume, otherwise you make an A** out of u and me.
