I do believe in a recent tournament (wijk aan zee?) Topalov sacrificed a piece and this made me think. When does anybody sacrafice in today's high level chess this seems so courageous of Topalov.

unfortuneatley i do not have the game but im sure someone will.

post all you most loved games and stories about Topalov.

Wijk aan zee is a place in Holland ;)

Anyways, I believe people make sacs in chess for superior position and strong attacks to the opponent's king. There are actually opening lines that involve minor piece sacrifices.

For example the Knight sac programmed into Deep Blue's opening lines.

I think Nxf7 is the move your talking about in a corus game against Kramnik. interesting sac but it was actually concieved and extremely extensively anaylised by one of Topas seconds.

 Here's a video of Topalov's post mortem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMujsFwtQVM
