I suggest a single game with draw odds for black. Whomever gets the higher point total gets to choose color.

You forgot two important things for the best chess player award in the final deciding game.

1. How to decide who is white (This is quite important at a high level)

2. What happens if the game is drawn.

Yes, I'm still thinking about that. Maybe I'll just do a best of three of 10 5. On the third game, it will be random on who is white or black.

Thanks for telling me.

I don't think that would be a good idea as at will be luck as to who has the better chances, and it's still possible that there will be a tie (e.g. 1 win each and 1 draw)

A better idea would be best of 2 or 4 games then if there is a tie have a public vote to determine the winner.

that seems okay...

If the game is a draw it is counted as a win for black.

I see... But is there any big drawback on this?

Usually draw odds gives white more time. For example draw odds blitz might be 7 to 5, with white having 7. Longer game might be 15 to 9, maybe. With increment, I would have to think about it. Including draw odds is the so-called Armageddon game, used in the US championship.

I generally don't like the idea, but in this case, maybe, just maybe... it might be the way to go.

how would you set those settings on live chess though?

Good question.  Maybe White doesn't really need the time advantage?

Start with 15 to 15 and have black take 6 minutes for their first move. Make it unrated.
