haha there is a 2100 in my club that says stuff like "oh, now you can't do that, because of THIS!" and then he'll proceed to own me in about 5 moves. it's a lot of fun to watch him and all, but when it happens to me it's a bit annoying lol. he's a cool guy, though, and i dont blame him. takes all walks, i guess. :)
What really grinds my gears...

I do sometimes talk to myself when playing blitz...but nothing specific about the opening variation or game.
Although I suppose I could vocalize some bogus continuation or deception just to throw my opponent off.
Or even better - point one eye at the area of the board where nothing is happening and use the other eye to do my calculations.
LMAO!

For anyone who hasn't seen the picture in Schachgeek's post must scroll back and look at it. I don't know why but after reading through the other posts and getting to that one just had me dying. Everyone was so serious about people annoying them ... and then Schachgeek comes along and gives his version of how ... lmao... my goodness I can't stop laughing about it. Anyway... I was in tears because that was just too funny! Go back and look at the picture.

I used to get really annoyed OTB by people slamming downs pieces, and 'screwing them in', you know the type, he plays his Knight to an outpost, bangs it down, and gives it a half twist.
But then I learnt a wonderful technique on how to deal with this. Say j'adoube, and unscrew it.
brilliant, can't wait to try it out...
Why are there two of these threads?
http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/what-really-grinds-my-gears
I intended it for General Chess Discussion, and posted this without realizing I was in Chess Players, so reposted it in General regardless.
Anyway, thanks for pointing out a harmless mistake and not even contributing to the topic... But that's usually your style, isn't it Grobe?
I am in total agreement regarding your overall view on the topic. You have to be a real pompous ass to anounce "King's pawn opening" and other things of that nature.
However the comment about Grobe is laughable and clearly you just made something up (i.e. thats your style isn't it?). On an internet forum, reckless ignorance is relatively harmless, but it certainly isn't a good habbit.
I'm also dissapointed that Family Guy worked its way on to the board.
The comment about Grobe is spot on the mark!
But back to the topic...I have never had anyone name the opening I am using, probably because I don't use set openings as I have never studied them, or any other thing as far as chess is concerned! lol I have had lots ask what opening I am using lol
