What should a 10-11 year old's rating be?

Very (VERY)true. My dad taught me when I was about 7, and I have been playing since! I’m currently teaching my grandmother, and TRYING to teach my brother. Personally, I can’t find the time in the day to sit down and play chess each day, so my rating is really low. Honestly, I sometimes prefer to use an actual chess set. Idk why ppl never play chess anymore though.

I would say all of you are doing great, I teach 10 year olds (school teacher) and very few know how to play chess. Very good at fortnite though.

About a year ago I was a pretty hardcore gamer, having quit chess from lack of motivation after lockdowns. I am over 1800 USCF, and I probably don't see myself coming back to rated tournaments. (I'm 15 btw)

I am 11 year old and my rating is 1240

What should a 10-11 year old's rating be?  I really don't know.  I am in that category and have a very high 1400 standard but I don't play on that much.  I play more on my blitz ten min. games which my rating is 1000.

A person's age does not dicate the skills in chess. I personally know 10-11 year olds with 1800+ ratings in the USCF and Magnus Carlsen received his title very young.

Since you are 1400ish on chess.com, I would say your USCF rating would be around 1100-1350

The only disadvantage a younger player has is experience , Most of the time , but it doesnt make your telent limited

Age is irrelevant to chess abilities. Some people just understand chess intuitively. Morphy was the best chess player in New Orleans when he was your age. Capablanca and Reshevsky were on tour giving demos and simuls (beating groups of experienced adults) when they were younger than you. Spassky was 10 when he beat Botvinnik in a simul (1947, when Botvinnik was by far the world's strongest player). Every few years someone sets a new record for youngest GM ever.

Others develop more slowly. Steinitz was a run-of-the-mill master as a young man and slowly evolved into the world champion. Lasker didn't become a strong player until he was an adult, and continued to have good results into old age. Korchnoi learned from his father but didn't start playing at chess clubs and taking lessons until he was 12 but was a top player past age 70.

So don't worry if you are not as strong a player as others your age and don't get too excited if you are better than most kids your age. Just play as much as you enjoy doing, and if you have exceptional talent it will show through sooner or later. And if you are not an GM caliber talent, just play for the challenge and enjoyment like the rest of us do.

I'm a 10 year old and my rating is 800. Personally, I think that 10 year olds should have already learned to calculate in chess but still sometimes make some blunders. The average rating for a 10 year old should probably be like 800-1000.

FMLarry

as an 11 year old, I have a higher than average rating, but from the tournaments in Canada, 16-1800 seems like the average rating for people my age.

PizzaGam3r

Everyone is talking 1000+ and I am just 400.

Born2slaYer

im 1* and my rating is 1655
