yes, what we need is a new player who can challenge Magnus. That would be a good thing for chess.

Yeah Caruana, or maybe giri in a few years he is in the top 20 and only 19 years old.

I'm quite sure that Kramnik is only appropriate opponent for Carlsen.

I think Giri has been stalling a bit too much recently. Wei Yi, perhaps.

Kramnik is almost done in his career. So maybe he won't be a match for Carlsen? still he is a worthy opponent....

I think Kramnik is the only one who has a chance against Carlsen in a match right now. They always seem very evenly matched, and Kramnik isn't afraid of Carlsen.

But he'll have to do it next chance, the next cycle will probably be too late for him.

Kramnik or Naka

Avatar of NewArdweaden

He just won World Cup, for example.

It is true, that Aronian has somewhat better results in tournaments, but head to head with Carlsen, Kramnik proves to be tougher opponent.

Kramnik absolutely. Carlsen has +7−0=15 score against Nakamura.

yeah Aronian does not beat carlsen  a lot

Yeah, Naka is to Carlsen as Shirov was to Kasparov.

I dunno but I think Andreikin used to be 2800+ in blitz and bullet at some point.

I tend to agree. He is by far the most dangerous opponent for Carlsen atm. On the other hand, it's by no means certain Kramnik will manage to win the candidates.

Right now the only one who has a real chance of beating Carlsen is Kramnik, but i'd throw Naka in the bag too. But funny cause Carlsen and Kramnik are the two best and are both trained by Kasparov... some would pay millions to get trained by him.

Yea Kramnik stickly stuck with Kasparov as a trainer his whole chess career until he branched out and beat Kasparov for the WC (which i believe Kasparov lost on purpose because he had faith in his pupil to take over after him and let him retire and do his business ventures) and Magnus on the other hand, he had a trainer but his trainer during the anand - carlsen WC came out and said he trained him but he didnt teach him those new moves he's using and putting 2 and 2 together, back in 2011 i think thats the year, Kasparov spent the ENTIRE year training Magnus.

Avatar of kikvors

Not really, they had a two or three week long sessions in that year and sometimes discussed things over Skype. That's what Kasparov's entire involvement amounted to. And Carlsen was already world top at the time.

I don't think Kasparov's influence had a lasting effect, judging from Carlsen's style.
