Nice one

Bobby does Boston

¡LOL!

MapleDanish

He'd be flipping my burgers :).  Or at least I like to tell myself that to make myself feel better ... :P

Kernicterus

Diplomat made me laugh too.

Stop hating on Bobby, people.  I think he woulda been my type, other than his personality.

Kernicterus

Did Fischer have any serious romantic relationships?  Someone should write up about that.

Is Brian Boitano straight?

one when he was older. I think she was a big chess fan, young I believe. she left him for some other guy and he got annoyed

ReedRichards

Well... whatever Bobby Fischer would have been without chess...I'm glad that reality never happened...because I enjoy playing his games.

He would've been wiping your windows and checking your oil (right next to Mike Love...another great walking "what-if?"  question).

speaking of what ifs, do you think Jeff Sarwer could have done if his parents would of let him play? it seems he was much better than Fischer at his age

Yes, he had been living with a Japanese woman, his de facto wife, Miyoko Watai, for several years up to the time of his death.

Very hard to say what he would have been other than a chess player, but as the ultimate chess player, he was actually many things in one. Artist, philosopher, strategist, musician (harmony on the board), academic (by reading vast amounts of [chess] literature), mathematician, linguist (learning Russian), etc...

Frank Brady says in his book Bobby Fischer, p.260: "Though I sympathize with his feeling that high school had no more to offer him, the event symbolized his formal rejection of general culture. More recently he's been interested in learning , and not too long ago said 'After I win the title, then I can think of developing myself in other areas.' and further: Goethe said that chess is '...the touchstone of the intellect', in effect, a paradigm of the cognitive processes of the human mind... For Bobby Fischer, however, chess must also be a lifelong fulfilment of the spirit."

Saemi Palsson said "Bobby was a genius, he could have been a great doctor, scientist - anything. But he was not emotionally intelligent - he didn't know how to behave with people. He did not trust many people. He did not trust doctors and that is why he did not want treatment for his condition."

also, with that hand writing I now think that he'd be a doctor :)

Kernicterus

He has a kid?  Does the kid play?

"In 1992, a multimillion-dollar pot lured him back into the limelight, again against Spassky in a tournament in Milosevic's Yugoslavia, then the subject of US sanctions. From then on he was an exile, circling the globe. While in the Philippines he met a young woman called Justine. In 2000 she gave birth to a daughter, who could now inherit his estate." (source: Telegraph as per previous post)

Apparently her name is Jinky. Not sure if she plays, but if she starts... there may be no stopping her (with genes like that).

jojowasa

Yeah but the Question is stopping her from doing what exactly?

She may even try to ...

finish this sentence with any verb noun combo that you like

Dakota_Clark

I believe you mean, "What would Fischer have done if not for chess?"...

ExtraBold

He could always have played himself in the movie 'Searching for Bobby Fischer'
