Dat Anand is no doubt a hot cake.
Karpov was the strongest player in the world ten years in a row and top two for more than twenty. Karpov won Linares 1994 when he was Anand's age now, and that with a +9 score in 13 rounds in the strongest tournament of the year, winning against Ivanchuk, Topalov, Kramnik, Gelfand, Beliavsky, Bareev, Lautier, Polgar and Illescas (Kasparov, Anand, Shirov and Kamsky were the only four that were able to get a draw). Anand is a great player but his career achievements are nowhere near Karpov's.
Karpov was stronger than Anand. But I disagree that he is the best chess player in the World. I think Garry Kasparov and Bobby Fischer is better than Karpov.
Karpov = 10 years Kasparov = 20 years
I like Viswanathan Anand more. Though he is not quite as good, he is from India. I love India.

Sure. That's why Fisher was so afraid of Karpov, that refused to play with him.

karpov is the best of all time he as won more top class tournaments then anyone else. plus a pure gentleman. anand is a good player but as still got to win more tournaments. and beat the man coming up Carlsen.
Just to make sure and to refresh my physics classes. It was long accepted in science that space was filled by a substance called Ether and that caused long distance forces. Later this theory was abandoned and thus the pun makes perfect scientific sense.
Temporarily abandoned. Now we have the Higgs Field as ether after all.

Karpov because of his positional understanding on the game.
Sure Karpov! How can you set them on one board, Karpov is a player of older period, a period of tight solid chess and long, very difficult tournaments.
Bobby Fisher refused to play with Karpov - you think, there is another reason besides fear?
Even Kasparov beat Karpov with insignificant advantage in World Chess Championship, they'd been playing for 5 years for the title. And Kasparov, as he became World Champion, used to elimante young pretendets as Anand easy. Anand won a Kasparov at least 2-3 games? I'm not sure.
