Done to death, this one.

Anyone want to be as SA?

Improve their rating?

Facing opponents who will not resign?

Or refuse a rematch?

Or demand a rematch?

Or who is going to unseat Magnus?

Are the any more old Chestnuts?

Oh, yeah the disappearing pawn.

Fischer is the greatest ever in my opinion. He was a genius. Kasparov was of course also very good in his prime but I don't see him being a genius like Fischer was. Also I hate the fact that many times Kasparov had some weird behaviour when losing. Another player who I consider a genius is Paul Morphy but between Fischer and Morphy I still have to give a slight edge to Fischer. Fischer will always be my idol and the greatest ever in my opinion.

Definitely Kasparov, not just because he is more modern, but also Fischer himself said so.

I'm quoting from memory, but I'm pretty sure this is accurate: Mikhail Botvinnik said something like, "In the combinative realm, Kasparov has outstripped Fischer. In the endgame, Fischer was stronger"

I believe Magnus Carlsen said Fischer was stronger in his prime, but it didn't last land. Kasparov was really strong for a long time

Destroyer942

Firmly believe it was Kasparov.

It’s definitely Fischer you see he was the best chess player in the whole history of chess ♟

To me Fischer is better than anyone, so also better than Kasparov, who must probably be the first contender to the second best player of all times.

i agree

sadly those were completely different eras in history, plus Fischer was never defeated as a world champion while Kasparov was and got beat to a pulp in his last match.

”If Fischer had been born in the USSR, with the soviet machine behind him, he might not have lost a game after 1960 and would still be wc today”

60 years without losing a single game, and still World Champion when 77 next year? :-)

I'm confused, are you being sarcastic or do you speculate what would happen if Fischer grew up in Russia.

I am quoting from post 93 and finding the idea that Fischer would have gone 60 years without losing a single game and beating Carlsen over the last years while on his way to 80 bemusing.

Tails204

Fischer.

Lol same. Like seriously? He's good but he's not a sorcerer.

Worked for James Dean.  Also Fischer died at 64.  Unless you meant dying inside... But that's a thread for another time
