Who is the greatest chess player of all time ?? Bobby Fischer ??

1. Kasparov: Defeated Karpov and became the world champion for over a decade with his unprecedented tactical style
2. Karpov: The king of positional chess and Kasparov's rival for many years
2. Lasker: psycological style of play and record time as world champion
3. Capablanca: Defeated Lasker with his advanced positional style
4. Fischer: brilliant naturally talented player but did not play in many tournaments and did not hold the top spot for long
5. Alekhine: Defeated Capablanca and had many tactical brilliancies
6. Botvinnik: Dominated Soviet chess for much of the 1930s
7: Tal: Probably the most brilliant attacker that ever lived
8. Carlsen: highest rated player ever at the age of 23 and likely to become the greatest player that ever lived by the end of his career

Fisher was fantastic, but he has not delivered the most supergames over the longest timespan. Kasparov is ahead. When people ask if Magnus Carlsen is the greatest, the common answer is that he has not been on top as long as Kasparov, but he has potential and might do it in the coming decades. Fisher is unfortunately not alive anymore, and therefore he has no potential left.
Magnus is smart, these days he hired Boris Gelfand to help the Norwegian team training before EM. Gelfand has something very special, and Carlsen absorbs. Magnus is a kind of monster that eats the opponents skills when playing with them, and just grows bigger and bigger.

Only two players in history have been able to maintain a +2800 rating for more than two years while being active in chess. Kasparov and Carlsen are clearly the two best players ever.
I'd love to see a match between them, even now with Kasparov retired!

Did you see how many European and Russian Championships Svidler won?
I don't think anyone else in history has won 7 Russian championships! He owns 5 Olympiad Gold Medals.
Ok, I agree he doesn't deserve to be considered the best ever, but he was (and is) really great! He still has a chance to become world champion this cycle. He's qualified for the Candidates again!
Svidler may not be the best ever, but he's one of the best, and one of the most accessible of elite players.

Kasparov will always be the best. He dominated everyone, played aggressively, and defended his title for years. I don't think any single chess player will ever instill as much fear into their opponents as Kaspy did.

Bobby Fischer is considered by many to be the greatest chess player of all time
There is companion question that should always accompany this topic...
"What is the most tediously boring question of all time brought up incessantly on the chess.com forum?"

before fischer starting using untested ritalyn he had a much lower rating , he fail to qualify for the candidates matches and knowing he was high on the drug they bought him the seat , after the drug efects started to decline he refused to play chess .the untested drug finally got him to go crazy /
i really believe that for the americans that the best player they can dream of having without buying some foreign player to represent them.

I've noticed a lot of people talk about the best of all time. Honestly drop the ego, To talk about who is the best of all time is impossible to gauge as it's been said 50 million times. Bobby Fisher was a good player but was a mad hatter with a Doc. Jeckle and Mister Hide personality.
Those who want to make a claim over who the best is searching for an idea of a hero to idol over. Those who search for this is lacking the self fulfillment of their own goals. Probably why it's such a common question. Honestly, the degree that chess has came along in todays use of computers and knowlege of openings, and updated tactics. Today's players are leaps ahead of the old timers.
