If you google it i think there is a 20 question test for just that. It was posted in these forums a few weeks ago but i cant remember the name. But to be honest you should be able to tell what kind of a player you are from the start. Its not really about which GM you play like all that matters is that you learn to develop your skills to become a good chess player. Not every chess player has taken this test and learned to play like a certain player. There are no quick fixes in chess, it just requires hard work.
Your Playing Style and Who You Emulate

You are right 05jogrady... that 20 question test was "What is your chess personality?" quiz. The answers to those questions may change as a player evolves..

I don't think there is something like 'style' below a certain level... Learn how to play chess first. You can start to worry about your style once you are an IM.

i believe the test is at http://www.chesspersonality.com/
my personality is champion, how flattering (although i feel my chess personality is a mix of anaconda, barbarian, magician and escape artist).

If you're very aggressive like me it would be worth your while to examine the games of Mikhail Tal. If you're very defensive then study Tigran Petrosian. If you like to squeeze out your opponent slowly but surely then study Karpov. Hope this helps.

I got Kramnik, when I took that test. They even guessed two of the three openings I play.
I think my play is closer to Maxim Dlugy, however.
I have read many different topics/posts about finding a player that you feel matches how a person plays, yet in the Chessmaster Josh Waitzkin Academy series Mr. Waitzkin recommends playinng in a way that is honest and true to "you." The big question for me is: who am I?
How did you, the other chess players out there, discover which GM/NM/other player was more to your style? I feel a bit lost and confused on this issue and would like some advice that could help direct me in finding who to study more than others.
