Arena Bughouse Woes

Playing today, I got a partner who ignored all of my suggestions: "Stall." "No Knight." Protect d8—you'll be mated."
Nothing. They didn't protect the mating square, so we lost.

I Blocked this player. Next game: Same partner.
You'd think that blocking a player would protect you from ever having that bad partner again! But…nooo.

So: ¿What is up with that?

Additionally: Sometimes I join an Arena, but I know I'll have to leave at, say, 8 O'Clock. I leave the event, close "Live"…and later find out that I'd "lost" a subsequent game (sometimes two games) through "Abandonment." Seems if the software had a brain, one would be able to withdraw from the tournament, as one can with Swiss. I mean, my partner and opponent would rather not sit around for a couple minutes, just waiting for my clock to run out. They're there to play.
